Happy New Years to everyone around the world!
Some bloggers take time off from writing content and blog promotion on New Years Eve and some folks may have missed the fact that Google updated the page ranks today. I almost missed it myself as I have not been online much promoting my blog today.
I have been very consistent in building backlinks and posting regular content but the big G was not feeling the Tycoon Blogger this time around as I got bumped from a pr3 to a pr 2. I find this very strange as it is not like I have been slacking off over here. This also comes at a time when my Google traffic has been growing steadily and I am ranking high for competitive keyword phrases like twitter follower tools and promote your blog. Oh well, I will keep doing my thing and see what happens next time. I know a lot of bloggers do not care about page rank, but I do still think it is important as advertisers still think it is important.
I wish I knew what Google formula was based on because I can not make any sense out of it. For example, this blog has over 1,500 backlinks. I have a static site called Your Sales Resume that I have never updated and it only has 37 backlinks and that just got a PR 4. What the F is up with that logic?
Anyways, I am a little pissed but I am not going to let it ruin my night.

Quite some time ago I was thrown from PR 4 to zero.
I’ve been posting every single day,no ads, etc.

Our pagerank increased a bit with the recent calculation. One very large factor in pagerank is domain age. That could explain why your sales resume site has high page rank with very few backlinks.

Don’t get disappointed, you may regain it in next update. My blog remained at PR4 and one of my automated blog got PR1.
I think your blog is dofollow that’s why the rank may have decreased as you are passing on PR to your readers

To be honest, I have been saying that the “quality” of the links make a difference over “quantity”.

So to counter Google’s error I added your site to my blogs I like page
I also wrote a little something on that bloggerluv page.I had a delay on that because my friend was getting Troj alerts when he went on there. Anyway let’s get to networking
A year or more ago Google substantially changed the public page rank calculations. They seem to have lowered the public page rank scores on many blogs and web sites. However it does not seem to affect the search engine rankings. To me it was nice when the public pr was more straight forward (it seems google is just showing a distorted one – mainly to prevent advertising fees based on page rank). That is their option. But I wish someone else would come up with a good alternative that was a public rank based on number and importance of links.
I now focus mainly on if search rankings are good and search referrals are strong. For example my management blog
http://management.curiouscatblog.net/
only has a pagerank of 3 but should be in the top 3 when you search on Google for management blog (now that results are personalized so much it can vary). Google lowered the pagerank while the search results have remained quite high.

I know a lot of my competitors have dropped PR as well. I don’t think it is unusual in that case.
What exactly are you trying to rank well in the search engine? The phrase “promote your blog” has a very tough competition and low search volume based on Google keyword tool. I don’t think it is worth your time building backlinks with anchor text link “promote your blog”.

@Kai- I would love your advice for key words/phrases that you think would be good for me to target. I was focusing on “Promote Your Blog” because most of my content falls into that category.

I’m in not hurry because by site is still new.
I feel the same about Google PR. LetUpdate dot com still in PR 2 even have a ton backlink. In other hand, my other blog that have a lot of sponsored review in it got PR 4.
It seems Google is still mystery.

I have not see any change of my blog PR , my blog PR remain the same that is 3. Some blog already gain good PR on this new PR update. I think this PR update was not hot news like the previous PR update.

Google calculates PR for specific pages which is why the majority of the time your homepage will have a higher PR than your other pages.

Google can make sometimes strange things, but for @Laane it is obvious as her blog posts rarely link to each-other. Hope your PR will grow in this New 2010 Year.
Congrats to those with high PR. Mine is now PR3. The new blog http://www.wordyliz.com is PR1 in less than a month! And the http://www.lizmagikera.info goes to PR0 from PR1. I’m happy with these.

No matter what people may say about PageRank, let us face the fact it is still a factor to consider. Having a high PR brings a lot of opportunity to do well in online business. Even though some people ignore it, they don’t notice that it does affect their site even in the slightest way. PageRank is not formulated by Google for nothing. It has many purposes and one of them is to deliver viewers with quality and satisfying web pages.
High Page Rank is good for easily ranking for inner pages that you never even bothered to promote.
It’s sad that you were dropped to a PR 3 from PR 2. But believe me it has happened to me with another blog that was dropped to a PR2 straight from a PR 4 and that too for no apparent reason whatsoever!?!
Google can be strange. But as long as our ranking is not getting affected, I think we should not worry much about it. After all, Google is probably gonna KILL the page rank soon if SEO experts are to be believed!

I have great confusion with my colleagues. I agree, back links from niche sites that have PR greater than the PR of our site help to raise PR.
I am aware that the google pr update is on its way im wondering if anyone can help me to make sure i have done things right in order to be moved of the 0 mark if anyone could help or give me any tips etc it would be appreciated..

The easily way to get PR is dofollow forum posting and dofollow blog commenting. Here is the lists for you and you will get PR after do some work.

I would have to agree. No one knows except for Google. I always refer to google’s blog for udates and to find out when they make algorithmic change announcements.

Google page rank is based on site publishing date, site traffic, internal and external link.So, don’t worry about your site page rank. If you increase your page rank, just put your site URL with more traffic site and SEO sites.
I never look at the page rank!
