We all know that Twitter spam is out of control. In fact, this is the most common reason given for people that stop using Twitter all together. If you are like me, you do a bit of research before you click the follow button to make sure that they are a “good follow”. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a tool that could do this automatically and just tell us yes or no with the click of the button? Well, good news, there is a new tool I discovered a couple of days back that will most certainly make a dent in the amount of Twitter spam. The tool is called Twit Chuck and it is very simple to use. You just type in the username and in a second it will generate a score and tell you to follow or not. The score is based on a scale of 100 and is based on a variety of factors such as:
as well as many other factors.
If this is all that this tool did, it would be very useful. Twit Chuck does not stop there, there are many other awesome features, like the ability to check all your friends and automatically unfollow the spam accounts. There is also an option to report spammers to Twit Chuck, so they can begin to build a file on this unsavory individual.
I am happy to report that my Twitter account, @tycoonblogger, scored an 86 and a big YES to follow. SO feel free to follow me in confidence, knowing that I will not spam you to death.

How did you score? Let me know in the comments what you Twit Chuck score is.. Can you beat 86?
Ahh nice find on the Twitter spam stopper, I am have been like the worst Twitter friend ever over the last few days.
Getting back into gear now and this twitter tool is the perfect article to tweet.

I got the same an 86 plus these are my comments
# This is a very popular user
# This user has been around for a while
# This user has a balanced ratio of friends and followers
# This user posts a lot
# This is an active user
# This user has shown a lack of spam posts, terms, or links and will most likely will not post spam
# This user typically has @replies in all of their posts, this likely reflects a spammer, but most likely the user communcates frequently with the Twitter community

The problem is, how about for people who has a large follower count, say 1000+. It’s really hard these days to try and cut off Twitter spam. They’re everywhere!
I do have tried TwitChuck though.

Nice tool. I can usually just tell if an account is spam or not by looking at the content on the page.

In theory anything that prevents spam is a good thing, but in my experience spam filters often stop things that aren’t actually spam.
