Need Twiends? Get more twitter followers free

Posted by Dan Keller in Social Media on 01 12th, 2010 | 18 responses

About a month ago I wrote a post called get more twitter followers fast and I was trying out a new free twitter follower service that I thought looked really promising.  I wanted to write another post now for a couple of reasons.  First off, I wanted to let you know the results of the past month.  Secondly, I wanted to let you know about some cool changes that they have implemented.  The final reason is that the term twitter followers tool drives a lot of organic traffic to my blog from google and it seems that people are interested in really reading out what works and what doesn’t.  I like that I can provide useful unbiased reviews and not have the people land on some twitter ripoff scam sales page.

The site is called Twiends.com, they recently changed their name from Twitter Followers.  It seems that Twitter sent them a cease and desist order and told them to stop infringing on their  name. There is not much to the site, basiclly you sign in with  your Twitter ID and they give you a listing of  people you can choose to follow.  If you follow them, you earn credits.  You can then use these credits to “entice” people to follow you. You can also earn additional free credits from referring others and if you sign up to the newsletter the owner Dave routinely sends out free credit vouchers.  Of course you can purchase credits but I have not seen the need to go down that road.

The coolest recent change is that they have added the ability to select people based on shared mutual interest, geography and several other criteria.

Bottom line is that the site works and it is Free.  I have added over 1,100 followers in a little over a month solely from this source.  If you are looking to build up your follower count then you may want to check out this free service.  Check the screen shot:

    Seems to be ok, but I’m trying to do my best to stay away from such programs. I want to be more connected with who I follow, thats the honest truth.

    BTW, I will be sharing this post with my Monday roundup so you might get a bit more exposure and maybe a few more followers ;)

    I have a friend who has reached the 100,000 unique hits level with her blog.

    Her total income is now $200 per month from ads.

    It has taken her five years to get there.

    What advice might you share with us.

    Looks to me that she found a pot of horse stew at the end of her rainbow instead of a pot of gold.

    There are two things to remember about these sort of websites:

    1. Twitter doesn’t like them and you can easily get banned or removed from the twitter search results.

    2. They are a having for twitter spammers to add you and then spam you to their hearts content.

    Never trust Twitter follower programs :) like Karen already mentioned you get most likely scrappy bots who just want to sell you some fancy ebooks or Twitter follower programs in their tweets and DMs.

    I used in the past the program from John Chow but after he decided himself not to follow anyone anymore (because of Sponsored tweets – better to follow yourself less tweeps – he unfollowed over 50.000 persons many of them from his own Twitter follower program).

    Most of these followers unfollow you as soon as you pressed the “follow” button in Twitter ;)

    My strategy is now more and more to ReTweet interesting tweets from influential Tweeps. This gives me daily 30 – 50 new followers by sending out up to 50 tweets.

    Most of the tweeps are targeted or interested into Social Media.

    It’s better to get to some of the Follow-back-Lists or to follow some of the persons on this lists. You can see some of these lists in my Twitter account.

    Did you know that Google ranks your tweets in the real-time search similar like it ranks your blog?
    Follow people targeted (similar niche) so that Google can see that your tweet is worth being shown in their real-time search.
    Use less Hashtags as Google recognizes this as spammy and not so worth to show it on the Frontpage of a search.

    @Karen and George-
    I tend to agree with you, that is why I have 2 twitter accounts.
    I have my @tycoonblogger account where I am very selective in who i follow and then I have @followdankeller that I am more adventerous with. This is also the same account that I am making money with. With sponsored tweets, the more followers, the more money.

    Martin;

    I feel the same way about follower programs – I think they are useful for the donkey work (unfollowing friends not following me), but don’t use them to add followers. I tend to look for people following similar Tweeps, and try to coax them into following me by following them, interating with them.

    But what you say about retweets is interesting – I’ll give it a try, but one question – how does this work? Why does re-tweeting other peoples’ tweets bring you more followers? Surely it would bring them more followers?

    Cheers,
    Warren

    Dan seems that you’re having a lot of luck with these twitter sites. I’m not a big fan of these sites, I recently found that re-tweeting relevant blog post to your niche can really bring more followers. When I tweeted a post, I’ll probably receive 3-5 followers.

    So now on, I’ll re-tweet everything post I read. Of course, I tweet this post as well. ;)

    Anyway, thanks for sharing this tool Dan!

    Cheers,
    Lee

    @Warren Davis:

    If you retweet for someone else, you promote their message, that’s true. They might gain additional followers and some visits to their website.

    But as we don’t have all the same followers, you spread the word to a much more broader audience.

    1. Most of the persons i retweet make a Shoutout afterward to their own followers. So they recommend me and some of these followers like to follow persons who retweet interesting tweets!

    2. If you retweet some minute or hours later an interesting tweet, your tweet will be seen “on Top” of Twitter’s search. This means if your tweet is visible on top, you’ll get for sure some followers + perhaps the original person who tweeted it :)

    I was skeptical about using a Twitter Follower program like this, but after trying it for a few weeks, it seems to have worked pretty well. My followers are up by about 50% so far.

    twiends.com looks to be interesting. It’s also nice to read the site works fine. Is it really the best way to get twitter followers? Please share more information on that.
    Thank you
