Are you missing out on making money on Sponsored Tweets?

Most bloggers know about Sponsored Tweets by now so I am not going to write about the basics and how it works.  Just in case you are completely new to blogging and Twitter, Sponsored Tweets is an ad platform that allows advertisers to broadcast tweets from individual Twitter accounts and the individuals on Twitter then make money on each Tweet.  Sounds simple, right?  Well it is a very simple concept but it is actually pretty difficult to make money using Sponsored Tweets, unless you’re John Chow.

I am actually pretty close to making my first $50, which is the threshold to trigger a payout, and that is why I was a little upset when I  logged into my account today and saw this:

Apparently, I missed out on making $17, which is not a huge amount but I would still like to have that in my PayPal account right now.

I know you can read about tips to make money using sponsored tweets on many blogs.  I have one simple tip that can help you and would of helped me out a bunch.

Pay Attention

I missed out on these opportunities simply because the opportunity passed by without me knowing about it.  I had my notifications set to alert me via Direct Message on Twitter.  The problem is that I very rarely check my DMs, mostly because it is usually filled with spam.  I figure if anyone wants to communicate with me they will hit me up with a @tycoonblogger rather than a DM.  As you can imagine, I switched my notification preference to alert me via email.  Hopefully, this will help me capitalize on these opportunities when they arise.  So far so good, just today I was notified of 2 opportunities. :-)

Jezz bad buzz. When I first seem your image I thought they were taking that away sue to some technicality but apparently not.

Missing out on making money opportunities isn’t cool. At least you have it sorted now. Also it might be a good idea to check your DM’s I don’t know why you get that much spam I rarely get spam form twitter.

I signed up for the sponsored tweet program but I never ever followed through with it. I’m still at 0 USD but I do have the referral code up at blogengage.

IMO it’s a time issue. How long does it take to make X dollars using ST? How much is your time worth?

If you have better options for making money, use them. If not, send out a tweet. :)

Sponsorships are absolutely a big help, they are the reason we have television porgraming and sports events you know. It’s only a matter of time before IP platforms generate the same sort of revenue.

Sponsored Tweets are just one of the many money-making opportunities that lots of bloggers are missing out on.

    One tip from me:
Depending on your blog’s niche, try replacing your AdSense blocks with a related high-paying affiliate offer. Use split testing to determine which gives you a better eCPM. I have done this on some of my blogs and driven the eCPM well over $200. Worth a try and it only takes a few minutes.

Another reason I set everything to email. Most folks complain of to much email and try to get creative…this does in fact cause problems. :)

I haven’t made a ton of money from Sponsored Tweets since I’ve started. However, it isn’t a get rich quick model, unless you’ve got a high profile and tens of thousands of followers already.

I wonder what’s wrong with commenters here? Dan was speaking about the issue with Sp. Tw. notification via DMs on Twitter, but most of the responders above are talking about how cool is to use Sp. Tw. or why they don’t make money with it..

Dan, the only advice is to change notifications to sending them via email.

PS. I think you also need to make your comment policy a little bit more cruel.

I am thinking about joining sponsored tweets, but I have around a 1000 followers. Do you think its a good idea to start with this number or should I double or maybe triple this number before starting?

Seeing as we’re a charity, I’ve avoided exploring these sponsored tweets so far. I worry it would tarnish our brand. Do you think I’m being over-cautious? I agree with Martin, individual small amounts can soon add up to make a massive difference. I’m biased of course since this is the idea that gave birth to Give A Brick ;)

Some comments here are not really helpful here :-)

I saw a lot of member from Sponsored Tweets who have less than 300 followers but got already several opportunities.

Sure their earnings aren’t that much like John Chow or Shoemoney achieve with one tweet but if you think of it that 1$ is the minimum amount to charge it just takes 50 tweets to get to the payout limit.

And it’s not that hard to think of such a short tweet with just 120 letters (+20 letters for the disclosure+link). It’s in the end easy money, you only have to be patient in the beginning and interact with your followers more or less daily.

There are a lot of advertiser who like to spread the money to the lowest price to reach more members than when they pay 10 times this amount to a member with more followers (but most of them are bots or dead account).

Twitter is about follower, if you have millions active follower you can make money from any program, that’s all.
So before making money from twitter get your follower first. Thanks Dan for the article.

This happened to me the other day. I just started using SponsoredTweets, and I wasn’t aware of how I would be notified about new tweets and everything. I’ve learned to keep a much closer eye on my inbox

Sponsored tweets could be a good way of making money. If we have lots of followers, this is a good way to make some money from it. Since I’m not really an interesting person who could attract lots of followers, I choose to leave this opportunity out. however, people who think they might be good at should definitely try it out. I know lots of people who make good income with sponsored tweets. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I believe sponsored tweets would only benefit those who have huge followings. Perhaps I may avail of this when I reach a reasonable number of followers and I will remember to check my DMs on this one. :-)

I haven’t been suing sponsored Tweets just because I only have close to 200 followers and do not think I would make any money from it – let along good money. Sounds like you are doing well closing in on the $50 mark! Is that the minimum withdrawal?

@Tom@Build That List, Yup, you need to hit the $50 mark to cash out, I would have been there last week if I had been paying closer attention.:-)
