I am having blogging for a couple of years now and I have developed a routine that works well for me. I have talked with many bloggers about they do after they write a post and I was surprised that not many of them have a set routine. The way I see blogging is that it is 50% writing and 50% promotion. Sure, some will argue with me about the percentages, but no one can argue that both elements are vital for blogging success. I figured I would share with you what I do after I write a blog post:
ü Ping it- I know that wordpress updates automatically, but I am still in the habit of going to pingamatic and updating the services.
ü Digg it- I send a shout to my digg circle and that helps get my digg count up. I have found that more people are likely to digg your stuff when you have some votes already.
ü Tweet it- I send a quick tweet to my followers @tycoonblogger and let them know that I just finished a new post.
ü Comment- I comment on at least 5 blogs, usually blogs that have commentluv installed.
A new step I added is to submit my post to Tweet My Post , and gain additional exposure from the site and the tweet to over 2,000 followers.
I was curious to see what other people did after writing a blog post so I posed the question in the CMFads forum.
Canucklehead said : Drink a beer!
EmmaB said : go to sleep. Seriously, it refreshes my mind.
After my little nap, I spend time with my family. and pet.
My blogs use twitterfeed so the post automatically goes to my tweet account.
That’s basically all I do. I wait for a nice reader to stumble or digg for me.
Turnip said : I taunt people on messenger and dare them to check my facts until they finally respond “no comment”.
Mkcoy said : post it to social bookmarking sites and networking sites. tweet about it. send emails and newsletters out. post on groups. climb on roof with loudspeaker. drop thousands of leaflets from aeroplane. post another..

I usually add to Zimbio – I get lots of traffic from them, Digg – although as people say you will get booted if you do too much, Stumble often, Mixx, Technorati Ping and some others. My blog also automatically updates mt twitter for me.

I normally surf the net for a while and just relax. I have a plugin-in called ‘MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer’ which pings a couple of sites and that is about it.
It’s funny to see what people do after posting
I used to spend a lot of time posting. Now, I spend a lot more time networking with people in related niches.

Just watch out for the Digg it part. Your blog will likely be marked as spam and banned from Digg sooner or later since so many Diggers absolutely hate blogs. Some people, whenever they see one automatically mark it as spam. Hah..

Good ideas. However I have quite a problem with the “Promoting part”. I use pingoat to ping my posts but I do not have digg nor tweeter. I do have stumbleupon and delicious though. Any tips for me? Anyway, I’m building up my blog and learning more about promoting/advertising it.

Tinkering something on my blog’s forum. o.O Strange, isn’t it?
Well, it’s a team blog anyway, and we need a mean to communicate… Email is the most used method and this forum is a new method we’re trying to use now.
I OnlyWire my posts right after I hit ‘publish’ which does everything you mentioned in this post and more all in one click
But the “drinking a beer” idea is really starting to appeal to me L.O.L.

You are thinking on correct lines, though I don’t ping/digg or tweet my posts, I do comment on some commentluv posts before I post another one. I also change my signature in some forums if I think post can be a good linkbait.
Jeet’s last blog post..Social Bookmarking List
I do submit my post to some bookmarking site with the bookmarking plugin in my blog, submit to my local ping site as well. After these, hang around the net. I have lots of ping site that have been installed in my WP Admin, so they will be receiving ping once my blog post is live.

@ Margaret- Thanks for visiting my blog. It is difficult to get noticed on Digg, I have not had much success yet, but I am sticking with it. I also use and like Mixx and Propeller too. They are both easy to submit to and are good for backlinks at the very least.
I responded to your question on the forum, too. Since I have the twitterfeed plugin installed, my new posts automatically go out that way. I’ve also begun submitting them to MiXX — never had much success from DIGG, although I’ll occasionally post there, too.
