Twitter changes @reply system- Many Twitter users upset

Twitter just made a major change to their system and one that is not going over well with the serious Twitter users.  They made a major change to their @reply system.  For those who do not know, the @reply feature allowed you to hold a conversation with another Twitter user while other people could follow the conversation as well.  By default, you would have to be following both sides for this to happen.  Until yesterday, there was an option to to view @replys without having to follow both sides.  I would guess that only about 10% of the users were using this feature, including myself, and that small minority is making a lot of noise about the change.  For one thing, I enjoyed this feature immensely because it lead to some great conversations and I found some awesome people to follow that I never would have known about otherwise.  Additionally, I am sure some of my followers found me in a similar way.

According to the Twitter team, this feature was confusing people.  Give me a break, everything is confusing when it is new, but people can learn. I remember email was confusing for the first day that I used it and then you get the hang of it.  Twitter is the same way, it can seem overwhelming at first but it does not take long to get familiar with the service.

I guess we can thank Oprah and her less than tech savvy sheep that have been jumping on to Twitter.  This gives me another reason to hate Oprah.

Lets continue to get vocal about this.  Share your thoughts on Twitter and use this hashtag #fixreplies.

I am betting that they change it back very soon, let’s see if I am right?

What do you think about the change?  Do you think they will change it back?

I am brand new to twitter, only been there a few days now, so I missed out on the big change. Not sure how it was before, but I do think that “confusing” is a bit of a crappy reason to make such a big change to such a popular site. As simple as it is, I was a bit confused when I arrived at Twitter, but I did some clicking until I figured it all out. Besides, there are far more complicated sites and devices out there that millions of people manage to figure out how to use every day.

personally I am getting sick of twitter making changes like that. Still, it beats facebook or myspace hands down so I can’t complain much.

It doesn’t matter. If you was having a convo with a friend and you told your friend to join a affiliate network under you and others that don’t follow you joined through your link as well. Would you complain? No, you will make extra money for life cause of this change. (Its always glass half full with me)
