Is your blog linkedin?
I must admit that I have up to now neglected Linkedin as a potential source of traffic. I am going to spend some time and build up my profile as well as my network. We all know that networking is important in building your readership. It is essential to interact and build friendships with other bloggers in your niche. Why not utilize the #1 site that was built for the sole purpose of networking and making connections.
You may be thinking that Linkedin is just for professional and business people. Well you are exactly right and if you want to build your blog it is important to view your blog as a business and view yourself as a professional.
Earlier this year Linkedin added a feature very similiar to Twitter and Facebook where you can add an update about what you are doing now. This is a great spot to highlight your must recent blog post.
Also earlier this year Linkedin partnered up with Wordpress to add an application that pulls your recent blog posts and adds them to your profile. This is an app that you add on Linked in simply by typing in your blog url and they do the rest. Take a look at the screen shot below:

Over the next couple of months I will be trying to add to my network and hopefully drive some consistent traffic to my blog. I will provide an update in a couple of month and report back on how successful this initiative is.
In the meantime, I am curious to see if any of you are using Linked in and seeing any meaningful blog traffic from it?
If you are on linkedin, please send me a request..Here is my link Tycoon Blogger on Linkedin
Every once and a while I will check this site out but I hardly use it as the tool it is intended to be. Great post.

I have been in Linkedin for some time but not yet optimize it for blog.

This is why I use HelloTxt to send messages to all my networks at least 1x per day, it will ping FaceBook, Twitter, Myspace, LinkedIn, Plurk, Frienster among 40 other Social Networks instantly.
There is even a plug-in for wordpress which will ping all 40+ of your social networks everytime you publish a post.
I do however use LinkedIn for my day job, and I don’t like to heavily promote my blogging to my day job, so its hard because my growing success as a blogger can hurt my day job reputation eventually as I gain more success.

Though it’s a good practice to promote blog over LinkedIn, it has drawback too. No one wants all the posts (say hacking) to be visible to a portal where you host your CV and complete profile visible to your colleauges.

Good advice in general, for me a no-can-do right now.
Blogging is a sideline. Being known as “a blogger” could very well close other doors for me. It’s really easy to forget that most people have only the vaguest notion of what blogging is, and isn’t… a situation I hope changes soon.

@Dave – I agree.
I actually have 2 accounts on linkedin. My personal account that is related to my offline business life and then I started one for “Tycoon Blogger” for all my online business pursuits.
I think it is good for me to seperate the two at this time as well..
