A friend of mine said “PR is worth more than traffic right now.” Ironically many advertisers look primarily at PR even when traffic is low. But PR is fickle and many say about to be replaced with “transparency.”
If my PR changes, the same tested goals apply of seeking backlinks, getting traffic, and making money with my blog. That’s why I focus on these and not increasing PR. The criteria we are looking at here in this post is traffic.
So, the question arises, “What can I do now to increase my traffic tomorrow?” That’s why I’m guest posting here today (thank you very much Dan). I’ll try and give you some new ideas.
1. OnlyWire.com – When you submit to social media, use this service. It helps automate a tedious activity which I always appreciate in blogging. This increases traffic immensely if done right.
2. Ping.fm – Twitter is a big keyword on Dan’s blog so I know I have a Twittering “masters” audience right now. Nonetheless, I throw this out: use ping.fm and get your statuses out a lot farther.
3. Google Reader on a disciplined schedule of commenting.
I really appreciate Dan’s blog because it’s a community thing. Feedback on this topic is welcome.

Good tips Damien! OnlyWire.com and Ping.fm is new to me, I may want to look more into it. PR and Alexa rank are actually important for direct advertiser, they consider this 2 factors before they buy your banner ads, of course traffic is important as well.

Lee,
I agree with you, these are great tips. I was unfamiliar with these tools until Damien pointed them out.

I agree with the article. But then again, it all depends on the advertiser if you’re trying to monetize your blog. Some advertisers want PR more than traffic, while other advertisers prefer traffic over PR.
Final suggestion: just work on both!

If you know a lot about SEO you can rank better than people with higher PR. PR is just one of the factors to determine where you go in the search engine.

Never even heard about OnlyWire.com and Ping.fm. >_< Will check them soon.
And I agree with you, traffic is important. However, we need a quality traffic, not just a passerby.
Getting a PR is worth it, it draws a traffic from search engines… usually a quality traffic.

PR is an interesting piece of information but many give it too much weight. When I consider my blogs success I want to see the traffic continue to grow. If that is happening I am likely doing a good job providing a resource people value. Other things (like PR, advertising…) will come if I provide a resource people value.
