Me and my son’s blogging routine, what’s yours?

Posted by Dan Keller in Promoting Your Blog on 12 17th, 2009 | 15 responses

As some of you know, I am teaching my 10 year old son about blogging and he has been doing very well lately.  In fact he just mentioned that his blog is tighter than mine.  What he means by this is that he is very consistent about updating his blog and he has gotten into a regular routine.  He wakes up 20 minutes earlier and writes a new blog post every day.  He then goes to bit.ly and shortens his link and then tweets it to his 33 followers.  I am very impressed with his dedication and consistency and think that if he continues and adds other promotional activities he will do well as a tween blogger.

Here is my blogging routine

  • I blog on Tycoon Blogger 4-5 times a week.
  • At night, I start around 8:00 and it usually takes me 30-45 minutes to publish a new post.
  • After my post is complete, I head over to Blog Engage and submit my link.  While there, I check out the newly published posts and upcoming posts and of course, vote up my friends.
  • My next step is to submit to Twittley, this takes care of tweeting to my followers.  While on Twittley, I also take time to look for my friends’ posts and send out some RT’s
  • I then head out to visit and comment on other blogs, most of which have comment luv, which helps promote my new post.

This is a pretty simple routine that takes 2-3 hours per night.  Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer.

I am very interested to read your comments, what is your blog routine?

That’s not a bad schedule at all. I think if I tackle just half of that, I’d be more successful in achieving my goals….rather setting some goals!

    What’s your son’s site?

It’s a very good routine, one that I follow as well, once a week for each of my 15 blogs. Somehow it all gets done but it’s a full time job and I am fortunate to be able to devote most of my time to it.

My routine is quite simple, i make 2-3 posts a day and they auto submit to twitter and thats all i do. My blog syndicates to Google news so i receive a lot of traffic without doing very much which is good, i currently average 4000-6000 uniques a day.

    Hi,

You got me curious about what your son is blogging about. You must be so proud of him, maybe he can do a guest post one day.

Thanks for sharing the routine. By the way, I mention you in my latest post.

First, I want to say how cool it is that you are teaching your son about blogging at such a young age. I know it will pay huge dividends in the future.

As a new blogger I don’t really have a routine yet, but you posting yours gives me a good place to start. Thanks.

This is really cool! I wished that I had a mentor when I was younger to teach me how to blog, and this is a really cool experiment to be trying out.

Nice schedule Dan, add a couple more useful social sites in there and you might boost the traffic considerably :) .

My current schedule is used up mostly with my behind the scenes work, but it’ll be better then ever when current projects are complete.

I’m still working on the scheme of my work day , because I have to do so many little things yet, that just don’t let me start a routine.

Everyday I have to do something new, but at least I try to post constantly and add the latest post to social bookmarking sites.

Tweeting, voting, commenting, adding new friends on social sites, managing relationships is my second step, but I don’t take it seriously yet. :)

    BTW, nice post, really :)

Wow. I think its great that you are teaching your son about blogging now. You should teach him a little about SEO and linking since that and blogging go hand and hand. That way he can in the future promote sites and be advanced in the ‘internet world’. It is amazing how little people know about SEO and Blogging and links involved… this is great for knowledge in the future. He already had a great start and I give you props for teaching him that.
