If you have been on Twitter in the last month (who hasn’t, right!) I am sure you have noticed that they have started listing the top trending topics in the sidebar of your homepage. This is convenient and a good way to keep updated on the latest news and topics. It is also a great way to get blog traffic. The concept is pretty easy, if you are putting yourself where the action is you will increase your visibility. By taking part in the trending topic conversations, there is a strong chance that people will click on your profile and read some of your other tweets and hopefully click through to a site that you have listed in the profile. I suggest you take it a step further. Why not write a blog post that is relevant to a trending topic and include a direct link to your blog? I actually tried this yesterday and it worked very well. I had a guest post written by Caitlin Smith that was about the impact of Twitter in Iran. I send out a tweet with the blog title and the hash tag iranelection. So far, I have had over a thousand clicks on the link. I just resent a tweet and will use some of the other methods to promote the link and see how many more clicks I can get. I wanted to hold off on additional promotion to see the effect of just entering into the trending topics circle. Before I wrap up, there is just one thing I want to mention:
Do not spam
I have seen some real junky tweets with 4 or 5 tending topics in the same tweet. Come on, who are you fooling…
Have you used this technique yet? Has it worked for you?
Yup, I’ve used this tactic. very intersting thing to write about
I found it helpful, I did get some views to my site hahah

I’ve tried this method before, quite good and interesting, but I didn’t write a blog post about that, I just insert the keyword in my tweet and put my URL at the end of the tweet msg. I did receive some traffic from there.

Very well said, I have used it, and it worked a lot to me. Addressing Trending topics at your blog are proven very lucrative. Thanks for sharing this useful peace of information here. However, The key to getting more visitors to your blog is to post useful, original, well-written keywords oriented rich content.

That just gave me some ideas. I just wish they could figure out a way to keep the spammers out of the trending topics.

That’s good technique, but I prefer to build well SEOed blog to attract visitors

I’ve often clicked on the links on the Twitter home page, but never actually considered using them to my advantage, I’ll have to give it a try

Another cool way is to look at the Yahoo Hoempage. On the top tight they will list the “Trending Now” topics. If your blog has any authority simply post about one of them and you will snag a few hundred extra visitors in the next couple of days.

I think any time that you can jump on a new hot topic your bound to have success with the traffic return. Especially if you target the trending topic and keywords the right way.
Great post bro, it’s been a while I wanted to come through and say hi.
