Happy Friday everyone! Since it is Friday and I can’t stop blogging about Twitter, I thought it would make sense to talk about Follow Friday. Follow Friday is a way to let your followers know who you think is cool and who you recommend that they follow. It is a great idea and one that will soon explode in popularity once everyone catches on. It is only about two months old at this point. Here is how you should write your tweet: #Followfriday- great blogging tips @tycoonblogger – great career advice @careerblogger . It is essential that you use the hash tags to make it easy to find. Some people use it at the end, I prefer to use the hash tags at the beginning.
If you are going to use this as a way to promote your friends, I have a suggestion for you. Do not make it appear spammy. I have been seeing a lot of tweets that just have name after name. For example, #Followfriday @name1 @name2 @name3 @name4, etc… I get turned off when I see this and I am sure other people do too. It is important to tell people why they should follow the person. Are they funny? Insightful? provide useful information? have great recipes? You get the idea..
This is a great way to help your followers gain more followers. You will benefit as well as your followers will surely return the favor.
In fact, let’s try a little social experiment. If you tweet this today:
#Followfriday- great blogging tips @tycoonblogger – great career advice @careerblogger
I will send out a tweet telling my followers to follow you. I will do this for the first 4 people who respond. Just write a comment below telling me that you sent the tweet and of course make sure you leaver your twitter ID as well.
You will be helping me out and I will be helping you out. Isn’t that what Twitter is all about.
I agree about the spammy part. I overlook any FollowFriday posts that are nothing but a huge list of @names. A little bit of details about why people should that specific person doesn’t hurt.
