Another great tip from my guest poster Kai Lo, who blogs about how to get traffic to your blog and has other great tips about to How To Rank Number One On Google
Is it possible to be on first page of Google with PR 0? Certainly. You just need to know the right information to make it happen. You can’t beat top competitors on single keywords like “money” and “seo”, but if you make a keyphrase like “simple ways to make money online” or “seo in layman’s term”, you can be sure you’ll be on first page of Google with a simple tactic.
Many people preach that you need backlinks to your site to rank better on Google or get a higher PR. They don’t tell you that you need anchor text backlinks! For instance, if you are competing for keyphrase “simple ways to make money online”, you need your anchor text backlinks like that to point to your site.
What are easy ways to leave your anchor text backlink? Submit original, quality articles to Ezinearticles.com (high PR and rank high in SERPS), and be sure to follow their writing guidelines. In the resource box under your article, you can leave a link to your site. A lot of people make the mistake of using the URL as their backlink. If your URL is abcde.com and your site is about making money online, people will not type abcde.com to look up information on making money online UNLESS your site is so popular that everyone knows about.
Same thing goes to forum signatures. I see a lot of mistakes in the forums too, such as, “Click Here” or “Check out my site” as their anchor text link in the signatures. “Click Here” is nearly impossible to compete with because you are competing against Adobe (PR 10 site with lots of “Click Here to Download Adobe – Reader” anchor text links).
Write lots of guest posts whenever opportunity arrives! When you guest post, the author of the site will generally let you leave a backlink to your site. You want to take advantage of leaving an anchor text link to your site, for instance, “Simple Ways To Make Money Online”.
If you are interested in guest posting opportunities let me know, you can contact me through this blog. (I am using Kai’s advice about anchor text
)
There is so many times that page can rank high with page rank 1 or even 0, and sometimes sites with page rank 5 and so ranks lower because of small amount of backlinks or bad on page optimization and many more aspects.
Usually I have found that the low PR sites that rank quickly for a term also fall off after some time, to stay consistently on top of the SERP’s you have to be consistent with SEO and try to gain PR.
You have compiled a good list of tips. Of course anchor text is really important and I agree that it is possible to rank high without page rank at all. Of course domain age and sites authority matters as well.

You can get on Google’s front page easily if your keyword is not competitive. PR is no longer a direct measure of ‘potency’.
I’ve posted some articles on ezine with mixed results. I like american chronicle a little better. Seems to send me more traffic. Buzzle is another good site for articles.

@Eric Transue The lack of PageRank has nothing to do with search engine position.A pagerank 0 site can be before a pagerank 8 site for a certain keyword.
Relevant links, anchors,on page optimization and server location are few of the factors which Google use to determine position for a certain keyword.

Nice information.
Original content is my priority on my site as I consider that Content is King.
Being natural is also my principle.
thanks a lot.
PR is just one of the factors that google considers in ranking a website.I have even seen sites which are mainly flash based and having PR with not a single backlink.May be their internal linking structure is a good one.

Hi,
I saw lot of the site that are rank on the first page and have zero page rank. The main important thing is the content of you site.
Thanks for the sharing the information
You are correct. Using long tail keywords is esential to getting your site ranked well in Google when you lack other factors such as pagerank.

@Dan – I see the guest posting opportunities link!
I am still doing my little experiment on ranking high with keyphrase “number one on google”. I am currently #3 with that (sometimes #4 and sometimes I’m off the page). In the mean time, I am ranking high with “rank number one”, “how to rank number one”. That is why I like long keyphrases so I can build up better search engine placements for other phrases while I’m focusing on my main one.

Ezine articles is helpful. I have not seemed to see any direct benefit from it as of yet, but I have been happy with their site so far.
This is unrelated to being #1 in google, but you may want to check your logo image link – for some reason when I clicked on it (thinking it would take me back to your homepage) it took me to photobucket

Chelle,
Thanks for the heads up on that. All fixed
In regards to Ezine, I have seen a duel benefit. It is great for link building and if you keep at it, it will result in traffic eventually. I am not getting a ton of traffic from ezine, I would say maybe 20-25 a day. As you know every source helps!
