I have been writing tips to promote your blog here for the past year and it just dawned on me that all of the blog promotion tips that I have written about are focused on what you can do in the online world. If you are like me, you live in two worlds, your online life and the real world. In this post I want to focus on some easy and effective ways to promote your blog in ways that are not related to the Internet. Many of these blog promotion tips are ideas that I will be implementing as I try to boost traffic and readership to my career tips blog .
How to Promote Your Blog in the real world
- Community bulletin boards – There are hundreds of community bulletin board in your community that you can put your information on. Coffee shops, libraries, supermarkets are great places to promote your blog. You can print out a brochure and point out information that your blog would provide. For example, my career blog provides resume writing tips and interviewing advice. Therefore, my brochure will say, “Free Resume Writing Advice” and “Interviewing Advice” or “Need Help Finding a Job” or something along those lines. In this idea, I will be running contests where I provide a free professionally written resume as a prize.
- Business Cards – This is similar to the above tip. You can get hundreds of business cards for very cheap and even free sometimes. Post them on community boards, leave them on tables at the mall, hand them out to friends, etc.
- Tell People- This is the original social media. Sometimes it is easier to promote your blog online with social media because you can hide behind your computer screen. In the real word it is sometimes more difficult to strike up conversations with people. My advice is to start slow and talk up your blog with friends, family, co-workers and eventually start networking with other folks about your blog. My son does a good job of this for me and tells everyone in his 4th grade class that his dad is the Tycoon Blogger.
- Go to your Audience – Most bloggers serve a niche. Find out if there are any networking events or conventions. You will have a captive audience and could practice talking up your blog.
There you have it, 4 easy ways to promote a blog in the real world. As I mentioned, these tactics are part of the strategy I am laying out for one of my other blogs. I will write a follow up to this and let you know if these techniques were effective. The way I see it, it could only help.
Any other tips to add?

Nice list, thanks for sharing.
“Good content” + “connections” is the key in my experience.
You need the content to keep people coming back but you definitely need connections for the first launch.
It’s not easy anymore to get to the first page on Digg. And as it gets popular “lighter” stories start to dominate.
So digg like sites with niches become the next destination.
Thanks for the tipss….Everything you say is great advice, some of which I’ve done already and others that I will do later. The only thing I’ve experienced to not always work well is emailing fellow bloggers or readers who comment. I have done this before and many times, which usually gets me no response whatsoever. But at least I try.
Nice article.SEO Is a very important part of advertising and marketing, and will bring you the results you so desire.

I didn’t use much offline promotion to promote my blog. I only tell my friend when they ask for my blog URL as some of them know I’m making some hardcore cash from blogging.
For community bulletin boards or business card, I think I have yet to reach that stage yet, perhaps in future when I make it full time.

Lee

Good post, yes offline world can also serve as good source of website traffic, however, promoting an internet based business offline can be quite difficult especially if you deal in internet only web services
You dragged the attention down to the earth all of a sudden. This might be important to promote in offline world as well. But Dan, I found it much hard to talk with people about my blog in real world since the people even don’t know what is a blog and when in online its pretty easy to get a country full of people who are really doing it. If there were any seminars or meetings of bloggers, then it would be nict to talk about blogs. In my real world life there are nobody nearby who are interested on blogs.
