Driving Traffic to your blog by using your Google Analytics

I wanted to write a follow up to the post I wrote yesterday about driving traffic to your blog from Google. I am not an seo expert by any stretch but I did want to dive in a little further about how I actually found out what questions people typed into Google that actually lead them to my blog. Some of you may already know this but I also realize that a lot of rookie bloggers stop by here for blogging tips for beginners. So this post is for you.

  • First step – log into Google Analytics.  I am taking for granted that you already have an account set up and your code installed on your blog.  If you are looking for an easy way to add the code to your blog, check out this plugin.
  • Step two – Once in your in your analytics account, scroll down to the bottom and look under the traffic source section and click on view report.
  • Step three – Now scroll down to the bottom and look on the right hand side under keywords, click view full report.
  • Step four- Scroll to the bottom and you will see at the bottom “filtered keyword” and then an open text field where you can type in a word to narrow your search.  Since most questions begin with how or what, type those words in and Viola…you will have the top list of questions that drive traffic to your blog from Google.

So, how did it work for you.  What are your top questions?

You’re good doing remember, though, that they checked the performance and the class performed extremely well. We can use Google Webmaster Tools dash board in conjunction with Google Analytics to get complete insight into the keywords that are driving traffic to our sites. Google ranks you on the basis of the quality back links you have so get as many back links as you can. Thanks for this great post.

There are many computer games that “simulate” driving. However, many of them either glorify speed and reckless driving, are poor simulations, or oversimplify reality.

I knew this method but never gave it a try. Just while I was reading your this post, I thought to open my analytics account and try up this method.

The result came up was that I don’t receive much traffic asked as question only few visits on some seo questions and blogger platform related question. Instead of that my blog is receiving traffic for more static or straight keywords.

I think I need to optimize my blog for those kind of keywords.

A very interesting and informative article.
Is there an option where we can further analyze the keywords and find more useful metrics like competition percentage?

Here’s my problem… My site and my blog are about auto glass, but five of the top ten key word phrases that drive people to my site are about duct tape. Seriously… duct tape? *cry* I’ve thought about how to capitalize on this, but so far have struck out. :-(

I love Google Analytics and it’s my plan to really using it wisely this year. Having a blog review with it really opens up my eyes on the great potential it possesses. Keywords can be a guidance but still need to check whether it’s suitable to be used or not. :)

    Thanks for the heads up.

    Nice Article.
We can use Google Webmaster Tools dash board in conjunction with Google Analytics to get complete insight into the keywords that are driving traffic to our sites: like, how much percentage of the top search does a particular keyword constitute, and the click-through patterns. Combine this with map overlay and time spent on each page, you have enough information to analyze and improve traffic to your site.

Excellent tip!! The advanced filter is also useful for grabbing general “long-tail” keywords phrases that land folks on your site. Just type the short tail keywords in quotes into the search box, and you’ll pull long-tail phrase variations.

It’s good that you are analyzing what people are typing in Google to find your site. If you know which post gets searched the most on Google, you can feature that post in your homepage so lots of link juice can go to that post to make it rank higher in the SERPs.

Also, you should put nofollow tags on “Who is this ‘Tycoon blogger’ anyway?” and “Contact me for advertising and guest posting” so your link juice can go to much more important pages on your sites.

Funny, I hadn’t done this type of filter before on the “who, what, why, how…etc” questions. I did a search for “why” and one of my visits was from “Why did Indiana Jones not be Immortal” on my blog. Too funny.

you mean to say that we should know that for which question is mostly used for searching the site. and than that keyword should be promoted.

@share trading strategy, does article submission help to a great extent? Does that stand as an advantage over other ways of link building. Is it a right question to ask which is the most effective way of link building?
