Monetize Your Blog on 07 28th, 2009 |

I was recently thinking about the importance of a blogroll. When I first started blogging 2 years ago, bloggrolls were a big deal. It seems that some bloggers are not really utilizing their blogroll. I am about 6 months into this blog and I have really neglected my blogroll section. I have a total of 4 sites listed in my blogroll and they are all mine, 2 are other blogs that I own and 2 are blog directories that I own. It is about time that I focus on this part of my blog. Some bloggers link to other bloggers that they respect, and others use the blogroll to exchange links with other bloggers. Both of these are great uses for the blogroll section, but I am interested in monetizing this section of my blog. Here are 3 ways that I am going about monetizing my blogroll.
- There are several sites out there that act as the middleman for bloggers that want to sell their blogroll space and link buyers. There are two major players in this space right now ; Blogroll Please and BlogRolled. These sites claim to pay up to $30 per link to the blogger. I signed up for both services today, and I will follow up amd let you know how things are going.
- Webmaster forums are a great place to buy and sell links. In the past, I have had a lot of success with the Digital Point forums. They have an entire section that is dedicated to the buying and selling of links. It is very simple, all you have to do is start a thread and mention the pr of your blog, the niche, and the amount you are charging per month. Sit back and wait for your inbox to fill up with interested buyers. I have not sold links on DP for this blog, but I have for other blogs that I own as well as some static sites that I own as well. Talk about quick and easy money!
- Direct advertising- As part of my advertising options, I am including text links as an option. I am hoping to deal direct and cut out the middleman if at all possible. If you are interested in advertising rates, contact me through the contact form and I will email you my rates.
I am hoping this is will contribute nicely to my bottom line. I am curious to see how you guys are using your blogroll?
Let me know if you are just linking to bloggers you like, doing a link exchange or if you are also making money with your blogroll.

I have tried several Text link brokers before and found the most use out of them by selling my links and then converting it into buying links for myself. I did this for quite awhile but I have stopped recently. I wanted to see if these are hurting my PR or not.
Also, I probably would go through the digital point forum or any other direct method as this is a much worthwhile payout. simply cut out the middle man when you know what you are doing.

I’m using those 2 ones as well: backlinks.com as well as text-link-ads.com. The second one pays you ~$10 per link @pr2

Having your site listed on someone’s blogroll can have it’s advantage. My links page has loads of links to all kinds of websites. I would love to have my site on your blogroll.
P.S. You have already been on mine for sometime now.

We have just been using our blogroll as links to our products and affiliate links… but they have not brought us in any money yet. It is probably better if we exchange links with like-minded websites.
Now isn’t selling links one of the reasons John Chow got in trouble with Google before? I am not sure, but I thought that was one of the reasons.

I prefer to do direct ad, people say that google will slap our PR if they know that we sell the links on our blog, btw it’s easier to bargain the price

Hi Dan we at blogengage also offer a forum dedicated to exchanging link and this includes blog roll links.
http://www.blogengage.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=7
As you mentioned Digital Point is also an
amazing way to exchange or sell links too.
To avoid the issues Dougs talking about I simply exchange links it’s much easier.
Nice write up

Monetizing blogroll or any text link for that matter is somewhat tricky as Mr G is always on the lookout:) Don’t get me wrong, I do use this method as well, and one that has worked pretty well is LinkWorth. They have been around for a while and are reliable. I have not experimented with the sites you have mentioned but I probably will try it.
BTW, I found your website through the interview you gave on the F Club on New Media Bloggers

I’ve 2 blogroll actually, one is named as Network Link and another one is Featured sites. I monetize the featured sites area and do link exhcnage with the network link. It’s cool to make money with the blogroll but you need to insert NoFollow attribute to the external link, otherwise you’ll be getting banned by Google for selling text link.

I don’t currently monetize my blog roll, well at least not in the conventional ways.
I have recently thought of adding one thing to my blog roll that might give me a little added benefit but nothing with money.

Using service like blogrolled and blogroll please is a good idea to monetize our blogroll. But if using forum like digital forum. I don’t think this is a good idea because search engine don’t like buy and sell link. But if we use middle-man service, it is better.
