What to do in the first week of starting your blog

It has been a week, actually a week and a day since I started this new blog.  I wanted to recap all that I have done after setting up the blog.  This post can also be called, “The top 7 things to do after you install your blog.”  Here they are :

  1. Content- This is a blog right, content is king.  You can have the best graphics and coolest theme on the planet, but if your content sticks or if you do not have any, what is the point.  You should have at least 6 high quality posts ready to go and space them out one for each day.
  2. Pick a theme- If you use the standard WP theme (you know, the big blue box) it will be hard for people to take your blog seriously.  It is free and easy to upgrade your template, just type it into Google and pick your favorite.
  3. Add a logo-  You don’t have to have a killer logo, but anything will be better than the default.  You can get a free logo or one for around $5 if you look in the right places.  This is not a necessity, but it does help add to the credibility.
  4. About Me page- You definitely want to get this up and running in the first week.  People like to know about the person behind the blog.  If you have a good “about me” page your changes of gaining subscribers will increase dramatically.
  5. Seo Plugin- This is a must and is always the first plugin I install.  This will help set your title and keywords for your blog and for your posts.
  6. Forums- Get involved with Blogger and Webmaster forums.  You can drop your link and ask for feedback.  You will then be able to make adjustments early on.
  7. Directories- I like submitting to directories after I have 5 posts.  I view link building as a slow and steady race and I like to start early.

What did I miss?

Would you change the order?

You forgot to mention write a do-follow keywordluv commentluv comment for each of your posts. You can check in google using the paranthesis like “make money online” to see if you have enough juice. It’s very important to start ranking for some keywords. If that doesn’t work articles.

Some directories do give you a lot of links and some tag links which can include your keywords to help you get search traffic.

Your number seven is very important. At the completion of my website I submitted to a couple thousand seo directories and they are all human reviewed which can take months and even years if you consider dmoz. What I find very handy in this is I recieve one accepted email about every four days or so and this has been consistent for months I also see my backlinks in google and yahoo raise every time they do updates even if I have not done any advertising.

Now on to your question what did I miss? I feel two important aspects you missed once you have a few posts up and your ready to go is socal bookmark your site on the top 100 social bookmarking sites and write a press release the second is not only good for backlinks, but if your picked up by the press then you could recieve newpaper publication, free radio advertising, thousands of free one way backlinks, free tv advertising and so on. There are well over a hundred free press releases that you can submit to. The free marketing is out their you just need to know where to look. The best place to look is on all the big webmaster forums. Anyway good post one thing that your readers may find usefull is to place links to the sites you talk about such as I could really use a link to the blogger forum your talking about and for a webmaster forum I recommend>> http://forums.digitalpoint.com/
