Co-Blogging, also know as collaborative blogging, is a type of blog where there are more than one author that contributes content. Typically these blogs are centered around a common theme like social media, blogging tips, or technology. The set up around the blog can happen in many ways. In most cases the blog is owned by one person and all contributors share in the profits. There are a variety of co-blogging arrangements and it is safe to assume that each blog has a slightly different business model and arrangement for those that are involved in the project. The concept of co-blogging is not new but it seems to gaining popularity in past 6 months or so.
Some examples of collaborative blogs are:

Now that we know a little bit more about co-blogging, lets talk about the advantages of co-blogging:
10 Reasons why Co-Blogging might be a good idea
- Shared Responsibilities- This is the most obvious advantage and the most powerful one as well. The writing and promoting will not fall solely on your shoulders
- Motivating – This is similar to having a workout partner. If you have someone else involved, they will push you and motivate you to get the job down and also help push you to new heights.
- Added Depth- By adding different voices and experiences to your blog, you are adding depth and insight that goes beyond what only one contributor can achieve.
- Promotion – Extra muscle when it comes to promoting your posts and blogs is one of the most attractive aspects of co-blogging. Let’s say you have 5 bloggers blogging on one blog, you therefore have 5x the twitter followers, 5x the facebook friends and you are already starting out with 5 votes on your favorite social bookmarking sights.
- New ideas- We have all experience blogger burnout and have experienced times when the blogging ideas are just not flowing. How great would it be to have fellow bloggers to brain storm with or lean on during these times.
- Take a break – Similar to the above point, how great would it be to take a week of and go on vacation and know that your blog is being up dated with fresh content and being promoted in your absence..
- Greater chance to succeed. We all know how difficult it is to make it as a blogger. By teaming up with other bloggers you will be increasing your chance to succeed. I think co-blogging is great for newer bloggers who want to gain exposure as well as established bloggers that may want to lighten the work load on their blog or that want to start a new blog project/
I am sure there are dozens of additional reasons, but I think this is a good start to begin the conversation..
Does C0-Blogging sound like a good idea to you?
If you are nodding your head in agreement then listen up because I have a proposition to make.
I am starting my own collaborative blog over at BlogFluence.com . I am not sure how many bloggers will ultimately take part in the project but my vision is to have at least 5 so as to spread the work around a bit so we can all focus on our main blogs. In the coming days, I will be posting additional information about the BlogFluence project, so stay tuned. If you have an interest is discussing this further, please drop me an email at tycoonblogger at gmail dot com.

What do you think about the concept of co-blogging? Good idea? or prefer to blog alone?

I am not really used with the word. I've heard this just this blog post. But anyway, thanks for posting this!
I believe co blogging to be a great idea as the saying goes, content is king, the more bloggers you have the more content you are outputting, the more content you are outputting the more people can find your blog and hopefully link back it, making your blog stronger and stronger.
I like to quote this: two heads is better than one.” That sounds a great idea having the same thoughts. Its nice to know this Co-blogging exist!

Personally, I think blogs work best when they are primarily the work of one person. I read blogs which are written by people who seem to know what they are talking about, and cover interesting (to me) areas … as soon as you move to a ‘group blog’ the focus and style gets less clear, and often I find it is less interesting.
Co blogging…It such a great idea…
I am hearing this type of information first time . what is Co-blogging. bookmarked this web page.
I didn’t know about Co – blogging before this post..your post is very good for all blogger
No doubt, co-blogging has unlimited advantages. I’m thinking about building a blog with few other bloggers as well, what I worry is that I afraid I have not much time contributing to the blog and feel sorry to other bloggers. How do you think about this issue Dan?
You have a great domain name “BlogFluence”, I’ll definitely contact you if I change my mind and be one of the co-blogger.
Cheers,
Lee
I would like to join the co-blogging project after i finish my undergraduate in University of Malaya. This is one of my new year aim. Thanks for sharing!

Co-Blogging is like a well organized company and Individual Blogging is like a freelancer in our real life.
Individual Blogging often blogs wider and sometimes not sticked to one topic only.
Unlike individual blogging, co-blogging is good as it can be more niche focused with the collaborations. It also brings blogging to the next level.

Great breakdown on co-blogging. We’ve considered do this on our blog. Maybe having a mortgage broker, home inspector, and real estate lawyer write some posts. I think that would be really beneficial to our readers.

In relation to Tom’s comment, I think the best way to do a co-blog is to START it as a co-blog, instead of one person owning it for two years and then bringing in 5 partners.
Now for your question – on my current blogs, I don’t see myself bringing in partners in that sense; guest bloggers yes, and even guests with benefits if they guedt enough, but i am still in control overall.
Your question #2 – I’d love to be a part of a co-blog that started out that way, let me know if/when you’re looking.

I certainly like the idea of co-blogging. I think that, generally, we could all benefit from more co-operation online.
Co-blogging make the content become richer if compare with single author blog.

Co blogging is really a wonderful idea.. As i think it can give multiple ideas to the same blog which can be very helpful for the viewers of the blog..
I think it depends on what you’re doing. There are some niches where I’m simply going to know the subject inside and out, and I might go solo on a niche blog, but for a reader or socially driven blog, co-blogging can definitely be mutually beneficial for everyone.

Sounds like a good idea and it can make a huge difference if you have about 10 or more bloggers. I would guess the more you have the less promoting each one has to do as 10 have different means of promoting and all.
Good luck on this and hope you succeed.
@George Serradinho, 10 bloggers on one blog would be great number. One post every week or so and about 15 minutes of promotion per day could work wonders.
Collaborative blogging has an edge in this sense that multiple bloggers are promoting it, this helps a lot when ur blog is new and wven if its not, it sure boosts traffic
