I don’t know about you but one of my favorite posts to read are about wordpress plugins. It seems like I always learn something from those posts and I am introduced to some cool new tools. I thought it would be fun to share the latest plugins that I have activated on this blog
I just took a look at my plugin page and I am amazed that I have 58 plugins installed presently. I only have 32 activated so I guess that is not too bad.

In this post, I am not going to tlk about the basic and must have plugins, I guess these plugins could be considered “nice to have” but not essential.
- Diagonal Advertising Banner Plugin – I wrote about this when I first installed it. Basically, it adds javascript code to display an ad on right corner of your blog.
- Instant Weekly Round Up- This is one of favorites as it is a major time savor for me. This plugin makes it super easy to create a round up post by automating the process. No more manually copy and pasting links to write your round up and best of posts.
- Sexy Bookmarks- I have experimented with close to a dozen of plugins in this category and I really like this one. This plugin adds your choice of social bookmark buttons after your post.
- Special Text Box – This is definitely a non essential plugin but I think it adds a lot to a post. This plugin highlights certain portions of text within your post.
This is an example
- Thank me Later - This nifty plugin sends an email to first time commentators and you can customize the message you send out.
- Wapple Architect – this is the plugin I installed to make my blog mobile last month.
These are the most recent six, let me stop there for now. Stay tuned as I am sure I will write a part 2 follow up to this post at some point.
What are your most recent plugins? How many plugins are you currently running? Can anyone beat 32?
Have you subscribed to my RSS feed yet ? Are you following me on Twitter yet ?

I’ve never seen “Special Text Box”. That’s really cool. Nice use of the Sexy Bookmarks banner!

I’ve never seen the special text box either. You spelled “no” wrong in this sentence, “Mo more manually copy and pasting links to write your round up and best of posts.”

I’d like to know if there are plugins I can use to change the basic Wordpress look, so it won’t look like your basic blog.

You can hire a theme designer to make one for you. I also have a few wordpress blogs and all of them have custom themes.

I totally agree that a post about plugins is a big help.
Any practical ‘How-To’ Advice is greatly appreciated.
I will be posting about some plugins I use in a few days, everyone can benefit.
Many Thanks,
Wayne

Hmm, it seems your comment system (using WP-SpamFree) doesn’t work with Google Chrome. I had to post this from Firefox to get it to work.
Also, the error message says you’re using an outdated version of WP-SpamFree.

Install a second blog in a /News folder and link to the /News folder from the main blog. If you use the same theme people will probably never realize you have 2 blogs. When you post to the /News folder blog it will appear dynamic like you want.

Some nice plugins you listed. I would say that instead of using ‘Special Text Box’ plugin, one could just use some css styling. i wrote about it (under thesis category on my blog), but it can be used on any theme.
You need to try and keep the number of plugins down to a minimum to keep the load low on your server.

You just write the code necessary to interface with the plug-in. If you’re familiar enough with programming and with php, it isn’t that difficult to do.

Hello,
I was wondering if you ever experience performance issues with running so many WordPress Plugins?
Does it slow down your blog in any way due to the interaction with your hosting or does it cause any other performance issues?
I was under the impression that having so many plugins, especially inactive plugins that are just sitting on your server could generally slow your site’s response time down.
These are some great plugins, and I’d love to add some of them to my blog, but I just worry about that.
Thanks, Max

@dankeller, Yes, your blog definitely seems fast, so that doesn’t appear to be a problem for you. I was having some issues with 1 or possibly 2 plugins in the past, and then I started reading that plugins could slow down your site, so I started going in the opposite direction and eliminating all but the most essential plugins. However, since you’re running these particular plugins and others without any sort of issues, I think I’ll take a second look at adding some more back to my site and spice things up a little. Thanks again for the help.

If you are having a custom design made for you then talk to the designer and let them know exactly what plugins you are going to be using and ensure that they know how you want to use them.
[Reply]
this is great to know about these plug ins.Especially Thank me Later sounds really good.

This one plug in updates your current wysiwyg editor to a more advanced editor. One of which you can add source code directly into the posting. This is a great solution as it means i can add pop ups, peel away ads, video and more directly in to that posting.
[Reply]
wordpress is better because it use theme you can dress up your website in just a minute and you canchange your theme anytime by just a click away also using the pluging make your life much easier.
[Reply]
Your Wordpress blog is to get a custom theme. You can hire a theme designer to make one for you. I also have a few wordpress blogs and all of them have custom themes.

So for example on the homepage I might want all sidebars to show, but on the “About Me” page I might want only a sidebar with all of my contact information to show.
[Reply]
The source code won’t always have info about the plugins. I would just send an email to the author and ask about any widgets or plugins you are curious about. I’m sure they’d be happy to tell you.
