Promote your blog – 10 easy ways to get the word out

I was checking out the Blog Engage blog today and noticed that Brian is starting a cool weekly feature.  It is called the weekly word challenge and the way it works is bloggers in the community will create a post on their blog about the topic of the week.  This weeks topic is Marketing and Promotion.  These are two topics that I write about often, in fact, promoting your blog  is one of the four categories that I write about here on Tycoon Blogger.

I want to start of by saying that to me, Marketing and Promotion are two different (but related) concepts.  In my mind, marketing is more strategic in nature, you develop a plan, craft your message, deliver your message to your target audience and then acquire customers.  When I think about blog promotion, I think about getting the word out.  With that being said, I thought I would create a simple Top Ten post.

10 Easy Ways to get the word out about your blog

  1. Comment on other blogs.  To maximize your effort, I suggest commenting on high traffic blogs and/or blogs that have comment luv installed.
  2. Get active in forums. To maximize your effort, I suggest joining Digital Point, they let you create two signature links where you can promote your blog.  It is also a good idea to help others in the blogging section of that forum.
  3. Publish some articles.  To maximize your effort, focus on the top couple article directories like Ezine Article and GoArticles.  These sites allow you to include a link to your blog in the author section.
  4. Blog Directories – To maximize your effort, take a look at this top free blog directories post I wrote several months back.
  5. Guest Post – Write some killer posts and instead of posting them on your own site, offer them up as guest posts on more popular blogs.  If you are interested in guest posting here, contact me and let me know.
  6. Twitter- It is not the most popular word of 2009 for nothing.  Network with other bloggers on Twitter and they can help you get the word out. You can follow me on Twitter @tycoonblogger and I will follow you back and will RT your posts if they are good.
  7. Facebook – I was late to the Facebook game for blog promotion but I have seen the light.  Quick and easy way to get the word out.
  8. Join a Blog Network – If you are looking for free, check out Entrecard.  If you do not mind paying a bit and recouping it later, I recommend Adgitize.
  9. Sponsor a contest – You can sponsor your own or other blogger’s contest.  Great way to get the word out.  My experience with “Rookie Blogger” contest confirms this.
  10. Join Blog Engage – Seriously, this is a great way to connect with other bloggers and increase the exposure your blog.  To take it one step further, why not take part in the weekly word challenge.

    Excellent information…and simply and clearly explained for people like me who are still struggling with all these concepts. I was beginning to think forum participation was just over rated and that it didn’t make much difference to your score (except to get you noticed) but never realized it was providing significant back-links.     How long have you been at it and how successfull have you been at it. I currently have a blog promoting my online venture but I’d like to get into affiliate advertising as well using my current blog.

    Blog commenting, being active in Forums and twitter have been my main 3 ways to promote my blog posts. I have recently joined FaceBook (as hard as it may sound to believe) and lets see if I can use it to my best advantage :P

    These are some great marketing tips…I just got into the facebook thing and there are some facebook groups that are HUGE and if the group is in your niche you can get a good amount of traffic from posting on these group walls :)

    Submit your blog to various blog directories. Another easy and fun way is to simply promote it through your social network accounts like Face book and Twitter. I’m sure a lot of your friends and relatives would love to check it out.

    The best I like is ezine (or article marketing). This is because your article remains forever unless you delete or ezine close shop. For the social media aspect, once you stop being active, your blog would be forgetting.

    I’m sitting here reading this article and I eventually come to the footer to leave a comment and what do I see. I’m not sure this is ironic or not but are well all here commuting from the weekly word challenge? I mean I see a lot of familiar faces here. Big thanks for supporting t blogengage Dan I really appreciate it! We got a good turnout for the first week let’s get pumped for week .

    You really hit the nail on the head with this article. Everything you mention here is what brought blogengage to what it is today. I’m on twitter, facebook, forums (a lot), blogengage, digg, reddit, mix, propeller, and more. I’m seriously a social junkie right now.

    Good post, I am not doing most of them. But, I am doing the commentluv, keywordluv, and top commenters. I am new to this, I can see it would pay me to sign up for Facebook and Twitter as well. I have a lot to learn and am looking forward to spending time on your blog.

    I’ve published a similar blog post recently but we have different ways in getting traffic to our blog though. Lately I’m getting excited with Twitter as all of my posts are getting good number of re-tweets and that shows that Twitter can actually bring in some pure traffic.

    Some really good tips for raising your profile.

    Facebook seems to be the in thing right now with everyone and their dog getting a fan page. I guess with 350 million users it’s a pretty great place to start eh?

    I believe forum is not a good way to increase traffic. because our post will be gone faster than any other traffic building tactic like blog commenting and article marketing. Maybe for temporary based is still ok.

    Commenting is always helpfull to get traffic nd if we comment frequently then it will surely bring good traffic ;) nd guest posting is also a good thing to get traffic :)

    Totally agree that commenting is the strongest weapon of bloggers to gain traffic :)
    But about blog directories? I didn’t realize the importance of submitting my blog to those directories.
    Besides Facebook or Twitter and forum, active on social networks such as Digg, Reddit, Mixx may help.
