installed wibiya toolbar at the bottom of my blog – what do you think?

There are hundreds of blog widgets and plugins out there, but this has to be one of the coolest that I have come across in a while.  I am sure you have noticed the bottom toolbar on my blog and if it did not catch your eye, I am certain the pop up notification caught your attention.  The toolbar is a new plugin called Wibiya, and it is a powerful tool that adds widgets that help readers engage with your blog more as well as make it very easy to share your blog across a variety of social networks.

This service is still in beta and you must be invited to join.  You can actually visit their site and request an invitation and if available they will add you to the list.  The set up process was a breeze.  It takes three steps, the first step you choose the color.  Step two, you choose the widgets you want to have.  Here are the options:

  • Switch Search Provider
  • Translate this Page
  • Recent Post
  • Random Post
  • Photo Gallery
  • Last Notifications
  • Twitter Dashboard
  • Community
  • Visit our Fan Page
  • Subscribe to our RSS Feed

As you can see, there are a lot of options to choose from.  I selected the search function, rss subscriber button, translation service, notifications, and Twitter.  The Twitter feature is killer, you have to check it out!  If you are a Facebook person, you will be very excited about the features provided.  I only have two Facebook friends, so I left of that part off.

The final step is to download the plugin and upload it your site and then activate it like you do all your other plugins.

Do you guys like this tool or do you think it is overkill?

I was impressed with the site owners as they contacted me fast and I thought I would be denied or ignored by the have the customer service spot on :) This toolbar isn’t going anywhere I bet they make it better :) One day I was bored and used the games section they have some cool games on there so yes anything that engages people is COOL :) I hope we can network more and I apologize for not coming by more often.

I have used this wibiya widget and it is not only a good toolbar but a great way to find who is tweeting your site. plus it has a lot of other features like games, translation and facebook which are just awesome. There are chances that u get more features added to it.

I’m a bit divided. Even though it seems to follow some great new functions I’m personally not to fond of custom bars.

Looks like I heard that name earlier also. But it is really looking awesome Dan. It’s giving me the feeling of Ultimate Footer ad plugin for wordpress. Really.

  12. Extreme John@ Blogging and Business CEO 06. Aug, 2009 at 10:55 am #

Ahhh another one of these cool wordpress plugins :)

I love the look and the concept behind the entire thing, however as a Feedly RSS feed reader user it kills me.

It makes it impossible for me to navigate to the next page in my Feedly feed reader view, doesn’t sound bad except it means four more steps to get back to where I was.

    Close site window
    Open Feedly
    Click Dashboard
    Pick next article manually

I noticed it with this plugin as soon as John Sullivan over at Pot Politics put it in.

Just a thought to consider :)

Dan… it looks awesome on your site! I wonder how it would conflict with my Ultimate Footer Ad.

Can you do us a favor and post about how this is working for you in a month or so? I would love to know how you end up liking it after you have tried it for a while.

I’m not much a fan of add-ons to blogs Dan. Honestly, it distracts me. But of course, most of your readers like it and I’d say go for it. I believe it does have a lot of benefits :)

    Hi Everybody,

    Thanks for the great feedback.

I just wanted to add that what you are seeing now from the Wibiya service is just the tip of the iceberg, there is a lot more coming.

    Best regards,

    Dror

As Doung said, I also wanna know how it works for your after using it for 1month. Do tell us your review after a month.

Oops.. There was a spelling mistake. I wanted to write “Doug” but mistakenly added a “n” in his name. Sorry for this. Please edit it to proper one. :)

I’m not a big fan of blogs with a toolbar like that. I already have a search field in my browser (Firefox), I can see your RSS feed in the address bar of the browser and I already have access to my Twitter account so I think it’s a wast of good space.

In my point of view. I don’t see any true benefit from this toolbar. Some of the feature that this toolbar have such as search the web, I already have it in my browser toolbar. for translation, I prefer use netbuilder.org script and put it in my site.
