Improve your “about me” page by adding Video

Several months back I wrote a post titled How to Write a Killer “About Me” page for your Blog .  I wanted to add on to that post and provide a tip that I recently implemented that could help your blog.

Instead of just a picture of me, I decided to add a 3 minute video introducing you to my blog.  I think this adds a personal touch and I am hoping it will increase the amount of interaction between me and my readers.

I also included a link to my top blog posts up until now to give me readers an easy way to jump right into my best content.

    Do you get traffic from adding video as favorites in You tube? More traffic to your profile or you get them from comments? or Both? They also have a new active sharing? Does anyone know what’s up?

    My friends were planning to make a random vid for youtube, and I was assigned to be the Technical Producer.. Now all I need is a software for adding video effects…

    When I go to add file to library, and then go to add one of these. It says processing the video file. And then it just doesnt show up in my library. I’ve tried drag and drop. I’ve tried doing the add folder to library. Nothing is working.

    Thanks for doing what the rest of us regular bloggers are only thinking of. This is a great example of what an interesting About page should look like. God knows the majority of the other ones out there could use some pizazz like yours.

    Nice idea of having a video on the about me section. In my case, I try my best to have my about me as impressive as possible because I know prospect employers might search me using the internet. :)

    @Steve- yes, I am a full time recruiter in the pharma industry and spend about 20 hours a week on my various blogs and other online projects.

    Thanks for the advice Dan. I have thought about making a video in the past but haven’t felt that comfortable with it. I think I just need to go for it!

    That’s a real nice touch and would make any About page stand out. It reduces the amount of redundant descriptions of your site as well. Anything that improves the reader’s experience is bound to please Google too.

    You know I can’t stand the “About Me” page, I hate writing about me especially because it’s pretty much what my blog is about anyway. How much of me do I really feeling like talking about.

    Doing it in a video format would certainly make the task much easier. All though I really am not a huge video person.

    I love the “action” at first in the video, sweet :)

    Is it on purpose you selected the “preview frame” to be with your mouth open? You can select another one within youtube, unless of course it was on purpose.

    But I think it was a good video, certainly shouldn’t be longer than yours, I think, for an about page.

    I like the idea but I don’t think I’ll make a video myself, my name sounds stupid when said in english, specially my last name…

    Wow that’s a great About Me page Dan, I think it’s good to let the readers know more about yourself and the way you talk. That’s great to see you can talk in front of the video, this is something that I’m not able to do right now, I’m nervous.

    And, I heard your daughter’s voice as well. :D

    Very cool Dan. You seem like a really nice guy :) I really like the idea and think it is something we should try in the near future. For me, I like being behind the camera more than in front of it… so it should be interesting.

    Well done Dan. Video becomes much more personal than a regular photo and it would be great if more people decided to add a video on their about page.

    You could actually create a link directory with a huge video archive where you can search for a specific domain. Innovative, but I’m not sure if it would be popular.
