I know this is a very dramatic title to this post but believe it or not there is a great deal of truth in it. Keep reading and I will explain what I mean. I decided to write this post as a contrarian view of a post I just read over at Extreme John’s blog called 5 ways blogging can kill you. I know many of you come to my blog for blogging tips and blog promotion ideas but I am going to go in a personal direction with this one. A couple of years ago I hit a rough patch in my life and started drinking heavy and doing some other things that were not healthy. Long story short, that lifestyle caught up with me and I found myself in a little bit of trouble. I decided to make a change in my life and I decided to quick drinking and start living the healthy lifestyle. This Novemeber 15th will mark the second year anniversary of my sobriety. This is also about the same time that I started to get real serious about blogging. Blogging has been a great way for me to occupy my time and keeps my focus so that I am not thinking about and tempted to drink. I think without this blogging hobby, I would have too much idle time on my hands, and we all know that is not a good thing. Now instead of heading to the fridge to get a beer after work, I head over to my laptop and see what is going on in the blogosphere.
I have also found that blogging actually relieves stress for me. Every night I jump on the computer for a couple of hours to unwind. I really enjoy interacting with my blogging buddies. This social interaction is much healthier for me than interacting with my drinking buddies. Daily blogging has allowed me to get into a new routine, a healthy routine that has helped level me out and get me on the strait and narrow.
I would love to hear your thoughts, Has blogging increased your health or decreased it?
Blogging do relieve stress and gives me a chance to forget my day to day work and experience something new and exciting.
Nice post

Unusual topic and the post.
As to me.. I quit my job, quit my study without waiting, that my blog starts earning something.
I decided to make it serious from all over the start. And, actually, my rates increase much faster, than rates of common blogger. I noticed that lately. And I hope, that I’ll write about it someday, but not now. Thanks to you, anyways. This is a great idea to think about.

After reading the post about 5 ways blogging can kill you, I new blogging was a serious game.
Wow wonderful post! But bloggin g can sometimes be stressful, especially when someone is trying to promote a blog.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s wonderful to hear that you have found a channel to focus your energy and put your ideas down on ‘paper’. The great thing about a blog is that after many years you can look aback at your posts and see your ideas evolve, kinda like a new age diary, except with others involved in your growth.
Mm that is very interesting. Congratulations to your sobriety of two years.
Although I could see Blogging as a life saver for you, you do state that its time consuming and that because of your drinking issue the blogosphere takes up your idle time, which is good… for you. BUT in the same way, some people only use the blogosphere and blogging to promote their businesses. These people are the ones that are much too busy with their business, family and life to have idle time. So in that way I could see how Blogging could cause more stress rather than less.
Congratulations again and I’m glad blogging saved your life and is enriching it as much as you say.
Nice to no that blogging change your life for better. Siting and blogging is much better then having a beer……….
Hope it continues with you………
Yup I love blogging too. It is amazing to me how many changes and opportunities it has brought me.

Congratulations on beating those demons and finding a healthy and very useful hobby. Blogging can certainly ne addictive as well but only in a good way.
It is definitely a stress reliever. To be honest though I prefer something like Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). It usually does the trick.

Congrats my friend on your getting sober! As for me, I need to step way a bit more. I can’t say for sure, but so many hours online may easily have contributed to my latest bout with blood clots.

First of all, congrats on your 2nd year anniversary for your blog, I just hit 1.5 year only.
Dan, I can’t believe that you was drinking heavy in the past, seemed that blogging really changed your life, moved to better life, that was a good thing.
I think I have not much changes in my life before starting my blog, I used to play online games and I stopped it after starting my blog. I just switched games to blogging, nothing changed.
Anyway, I enjoy blogging and I know you enjoy it too Dan!

Lee

Considering that I stay up late at night and lose sleep more often since I started blogging, I am leaning toward it may be hastening my death physically.
Mentally I have connected with so many great people and other bloggers, and the side income has helped me a little bit with my finances. Plus I now have hundreds of people per day reading my poetry, how great is that that people actually read my poetry
So in this way Blogging has saved my life

Well first off congrats and am glad to hear you are into a healthier lifestyle. It is easy to get home from the stress of a job and want a drink. I have done it many times and it is not a healthy habit to get into. I also like blogging. What I have found though is sitting at the computer for hours sometimes each night is not real healthy for me either though especially after sitting at work most of the day as I work in an office environment. I have to make sure I walk at night and go to the gym at least 3 nights a week. If not I will gain weight if sitting too much. I try to limit my time on the computer at night to 1-2 hours. I really like your blog and keep up the great work.

Before coming to your blog I read the post on ExtremeJohns blog about 5 ways blogging can kill you. I mentioned that I used to use booze to overcome writers block and many times hit the publish button when I shouldn’t have. I no longer drink while blogging but have still not been able to quit entirely and have been thinking about AA. How did you manage to quit and stay sober for two years?

Congrats on your 2 years of sobriety. I also use my computer as a method of stress relief, except mine is more in building websites. Being creative is an excellent outlet.
Keep it up and I love your blog.
