Last month at this time the blogosphere was buzzing with bloggers talking about their blogging goals and what their plans were for the new year ahead. As human beings we tend to have a short attention spam and I am sure a high percentage of bloggers forgot all about what they wrote about last month. It is kind of like when the gym is packed the first couple of weeks in January and then it starts to dwindle in February as people give up on their new years resolutions. I am hoping that if you are reading this post you have not given up on pursuing the goals that you have set out for yourself.
Today,I was thinking about the blog goal setting post I wrote last month and needed to remind myself what I wrote down. Here are the goals I wrote down:
- Reach the $1,ooo mark per month in profit.
- Add 1000 new rss subscribers
- Start 1 more blog
I took some time to reflect on where I am in relation to achieving these blogging goals.
- I fell short of the $1,000 mark. Although my adsense earnings have tripled in the last month, I have not spent much time writing sponsored posts or attracting new advertisers. I did get a couple of affiliate sales from the blog hosting reviews page I put up last month
- I also fell short on my rss goals. In order to reach 1000 at the end of the year, I need to add 83 per month. I did manage to add about half that amount but I still have some work to do. In an effort to help achieve this blogging goal, I made a change by prominently displaying a subscribe button at the top of the right hand column. I also changed the wording and bolded the words in my greet box plugin that I include after every post.
- I have not started another blog yet but I have been strategies and I also bought a couple of really cool domain names.
As you can see I have my work cut out for me. I think by checking in on my progress and keeping my goals at the front of mind it will go a long way in helping me get to where I want to be.
How about you guys? Are you on track to achieve the blogging goals you set for yourself?

Hey Dan,
It’s really sad because when you stated that most of us wouldn’t even remember what we wrote down; I was one of them guys lol.
I couldn’t remember what mine was…
So I went to my blog and looked up my post!
It was to drink more water.
I am doing great with my water drinking habits. I actually drink about 8 glasses a day.
For the record I still think you should be happy with your results from your new years post. Tripling your earnings is always great!

I put annual goals, my goal was to make $500 per month consistently from my blogs by end of December 2009, but I made just over $400 in January 2010, so I feel short of that goal. I don’t set RSS subscribers and goals for items I don’t have a direct influence on.
You do very well blogging, and I am sure you will reach your goals sooner than later.

I can say that I have not even completed a third of my goals. Most of them will be revised later in June where I hope to scratch off a few from my list.
It was actually good to go few them again and see what has been done.

For me, i achieve the goals but there are still plenty space for improvement.

I’m very new in creating it and really have no idea how to set either up. Its a music review website and my goal is to eventually have the users post their own reviews or comments on the existing reviews.

Hey Dan,
Great post, I haven’t set many goals. My goals are to post content at least 3 to five times a week, comment on other blogs, market my blogs and make sure to respond to comments on my articles.

It’s always good to have goals, keeps us on track and solidified in what were doing. Adsense trippling is a great achievement, good luck in future months.

Possibly this is related to the Hindu practice of child temple prostitution. Each day, hundreds of thousands of little girls as young as 3 years old are raped in temples in India.

I took some time, long hard decision making time, and totally changed my goals.
The pay-off has been highly successful for us and is something that I hope to share in a future post.
It’s certainly always wise to check in regularly on your goals so that you can see how you are currently doing and what you need to do more off to reach your targets.

Nice post there, Dan. Making money blogging has certainly become very challenging and competitive. Some do it for fun while others to earn their living. Lots of people do not know how much effort goes behind blogging. We all do though, and we are passionate about it. Hope you reach your goals soon. Good luck!

Hi Dan, I had two goals, one was helping bloggers. That is one that I will always strive for and I think I’ve done a great job so far. The other is to include some SEO strategies in my blogging. I’ve done that but I still don’t think that Google is paying me any attention. I’ll keep trying though.
You’re doing great. Right now you have 3 posts in a row on the Blog Engage homepage, I’m impressed.
