Murray Newlands is an international affiliate marketing expert who runs MurrayNewlands.com, an affiliate marketing blog. Murray has had significant blogging success since starting his blog in early 2009.
Tell me about Murraynewlands.com?
Murraynewlands.com is a blog about affiliate marketing, green marketing, social medial, blogging and what is happening in those industries. We interview people from across the sectors who I think will be of interest to the readers. We are always looking for more people to interview, so if that is you or you know someone who would be of interest in those sectors we would love to hear from you.
Why did you start Blogging?
I started blogging after speaking to a few bloggers about their blogs realised the potential after being featured on the Adrants.com blog. The more I get into blogging the more I wish I had started earlier. If you have not started- start now.
Your blog only started this year and yet you have a significant readership, any tips for new bloggers?
Learning SEO, SEO, SEO is critical for getting traffic. Getting good links in to your blog makes a huge difference and you can get great links from other bloggers. The blogging community is a “give to get” environment and the more you give to other bloggers and become established within the blogging community, the more you will find opportunities to give. With luck, they will start to link back to you. Linking to other bloggers in your posts, doing guest posts, and making good comments on other bloggers’ posts all help you to get to know other bloggers and generate links back.
My advice would be to reach out to other bloggers and get to know as many as possible. Join blogging forums like www.bloggeries.com/forum/ I would also recommend you go to marketing and blogging events.
What events do you go to?
Going to events is a great way to meet other bloggers, get tips and learn more about ways to improve your blog. Look on meetup.com and find your local blogging event: if there is not one then start one. I am going trying to arrange a blogger meet up at Affiliate Summit in New York. I also go the Ad:tech events around the world which cover affiliate marketing.
What are some odd keywords people use to find your blog?
I have started to rank well for the terms famous blogger and celebrity blogger. Recently I had Swine Flu and some post about Swine Flu seem to get lots of traffic.
What project are you working on at the moment?
I am working on a book called Affiliate Marketing for Merchants. I am going to be writing each page as a post. I got the idea from reading Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett’s book Secrets for Blogging You way to a Six-Figure Income.

Great interview! I do agree with you that we blogger should start earlier as blogging is a long term online business and it won’t be dead even though you’ve left it for some days, the time is very flexible. I’ve started my blog at my 21years old, I didn’t know whether it was a good time to start or it was late..
Anyway, I’ll keep my blog and have yet to think of dropping it.
I’ve never heard about murraynewlands but this blog looks cool and have a good PR too. A nice blog indeed!

Thanks for the interview with Murray Newlands. I like to find new upcoming bloggers in the MMO niche. It is always nice to hear a fresh perspective and all their thoughts that they can add to the table.
I really like his answer about SEO. I’m glad he didn’t say social media because I still think Google is king when it comes to traffic. I prefer search engine traffic because of its continuous nature.
Also, I really like the toolbar. It is really nice and sweet looking
