For over a year now I have been writing about how to promote a blog and develop a blogging community. I have been thinking about a simple way that I can engage more with all of you who stop by and read and comment on my blog.
I posted this idea on the Niche Bloggers Linkedin Group that I am a part of and thought it would make sense to open up the dialogue here as well.
I thought it would be fun if a bunch of us bloggers decided to write a post on a similar topic and take a look at it from a different angle. For example, we all have an opinion on the do follow – no follow debate and a host of other topics that all of our juices flowing. At the end of the post we can all link to each others posts, this will help with link building as well as exposure and hopefully traffic. (more…)
There is a major debate brewing. No, I am not talking about the health care debate. I am talking about the “do follow” ” no follow” debate that seems to be coming to a head lately. It seems like many bloggers that I am familiar with have been switching from do follow to no follow lately.
Earlier today I was reading a post on Site Sketch 101, where Nicolas claimed that the verdict is in on the “do follow” vs. “no follow” debate. One of his central tenants is that advertising your blog as “do follow” is like buying friends. Essentially his claim is that if your blog is do follow then you are basically paying people to talk to you and that you can not build relationships or community like that. I have been writing tips to promote your blog here for the past year and it just dawned on me that all of the blog promotion tips that I have written about are focused on what you can do in the online world. If you are like me, you live in two worlds, your online life and the real world. In this post I want to focus on some easy and effective ways to promote your blog in ways that are not related to the Internet. A couple of months back I wrote a post called Promote your Blog with Linkedin . Based on the comments and page views it seems like that Linkedin post was quite popular. Google really liked it as well, that article is one of the three site links I have currently for this blog. By now we all know the importance of proper twitter follower management. During the early days of Twitter (last year 
) many people looked to increase their Twitter following by following as many people as possible. I must admit that I did this as well. It made my kind of hate Twitter because I was bombarded with useful crap every half a second.
Well today I took action and and did a little spring cleaning and wiped out hundreds of people that I was following and not really sure why. (more…)
