This is a guest post from Damien Riley, if you are interested in guest posting, contact Tycoon Blogger.
A friend of mine said “PR is worth more than traffic right now.” Ironically many advertisers look primarily at PR even when traffic is low. But PR is fickle and many say about to be replaced with “transparency.”
If my PR changes, the same tested goals apply of seeking backlinks, getting traffic, and making money with my blog. That’s why I focus on these and not increasing PR. The criteria we are looking at here in this post is traffic.
So, the question arises, “What can I do now to increase my traffic tomorrow?” That’s why I’m guest posting here today (thank you very much Dan). I’ll try and give you some new ideas.
1. OnlyWire.com – When you submit to social media, use this service. It helps automate a tedious activity which I always appreciate in blogging. This increases traffic immensely if done right.
2. Ping.fm – Twitter is a big keyword on Dan’s blog so I know I have a Twittering “masters” audience right now. Nonetheless, I throw this out: use ping.fm and get your statuses out a lot farther.
3. Google Reader on a disciplined schedule of commenting.
I really appreciate Dan’s blog because it’s a community thing. Feedback on this topic is welcome.

I have nothing against ProBlogger , John Chow or ShoeMoney. Alright, if I am being honest I think ProBlogger is solid but I can not stand John Chow and ShoeMoney.I am sick of seeing their names on every single top blogger list. I do check them out from time to time, but I prefer to read other blogs more. I decided to write my own personal Top Ten blogger list. These are the bloggers I like and who I feel are the rising stars in the blogosphere.

Who did I miss? Let me know which bloggers you think are rising stars.
We all know that becoming a successful blogger is hard work. What is it that separates the amateurs from the pros. It could be writing ability, marketing ability, dedication or a variety of other factors. What I have found is that the most successful bloggers share many similar traits and have developed many similar habits. I have compiled a list of the top 25 habits/traits of successful bloggers.
1. Ambitious- You must to driven to succeed.
2. Truthful- Always be truthful with your readers.
3. Perseverance- Stick with it. It takes a long time to get a blog off the ground, those that persevere will be the ones left standing.
4. Thick skin- Not everyone will like you and you must be able to handle criticism.
5. Marketing mind set- You can have the best content in the world but if nobody reads it, what’s the point.
6. Opinionated- Pick a side, have an opinion.
7. Ideas- You need the ability to create unique ideas on a daily basis.
8. Uniformity- Pick a style and stick with it.
9. Eager to learn – A good blogger reads more than he writes and is always looking to expand their knowledge base.
10. Be social- This is a good rule of thumb in the “offline world” as well as the “online world” The best bloggers have huge social networks and are on many different social media networks.
11. Follow up- You must take the time to follow up on questions and comments of your readers.
12. Planning- Do you have a plan for your blog? This one is tough for me because I tend to jump right into things. Lately, I have been planning out my week on Sunday and this has helped me immensely.
13. Networker- It is important to interact with other bloggers. You do not have to formally be in a blog network, but in order to be successful you do need a circle of bloggers to interact with and help you promote your blog.
14. Mind of a winner- I am a firm believer in the power of positive thought.
15. A doer- In order to create content daily, you have to be a doer. Do not over analyze what you have written.
16. Balance- You have to create balance in your life. If you blog all day and all night you will burn out.
17. Consistency- Set a schedule and stick with it. Your readers will come to learn your schedule and expect you be consistent with your posting.
18. Responsiveness- Responds to questions and comments daily.
19. Organized- I keep a journal to help me stay organized and I also write ideas down when they pop into my head.
20. Be real- Be yourself and let your personality come through. Nobody wants to read a blog produced by a robot.
21. Patience- Even Darren, aka Problogger stated that it took over a year for his blog to catch on. This one goes hand in hand with perseverance.
22. Be visible- You have to put yourself out there. I read a quote once that always stuck with me. “A turtle only moves forward by sticking their neck out” or something like that, you get the idea.
23. Passion- You must be passionate about the subject you are writing about. If you are not, it will come through.
24. Focus- Do not get distracted. This is easier said than done, with all of the distractions of live and the Internet. I recently sold several blogs and other Internet properties so I can focus on building this blog and my blog directories.
25. Relationships- This is similar to networking but a successful blogger must be able to build friendships with other bloggers not just make many acquaintances.
Hopefully, you will find this list helpful. It is very helpful to me as I will refer to it on a daily basis to keep me headed in the right direction. I know I need to work on #11 and #21 and I still need to work on #24.
I am very interested in hearing your thoughts on this, what traits did I miss? What areas do you need to work on?
Another great tip from my guest poster Kai Lo, who blogs about how to get traffic to your blog and has other great tips about to How To Rank Number One On Google
Is it possible to be on first page of Google with PR 0? Certainly. You just need to know the right information to make it happen. You can’t beat top competitors on single keywords like “money” and “seo”, but if you make a keyphrase like “simple ways to make money online” or “seo in layman’s term”, you can be sure you’ll be on first page of Google with a simple tactic.
Many people preach that you need backlinks to your site to rank better on Google or get a higher PR. They don’t tell you that you need anchor text backlinks! For instance, if you are competing for keyphrase “simple ways to make money online”, you need your anchor text backlinks like that to point to your site.
What are easy ways to leave your anchor text backlink? Submit original, quality articles to Ezinearticles.com (high PR and rank high in SERPS), and be sure to follow their writing guidelines. In the resource box under your article, you can leave a link to your site. A lot of people make the mistake of using the URL as their backlink. If your URL is abcde.com and your site is about making money online, people will not type abcde.com to look up information on making money online UNLESS your site is so popular that everyone knows about.
Same thing goes to forum signatures. I see a lot of mistakes in the forums too, such as, “Click Here” or “Check out my site” as their anchor text link in the signatures. “Click Here” is nearly impossible to compete with because you are competing against Adobe (PR 10 site with lots of “Click Here to Download Adobe – Reader” anchor text links).
Write lots of guest posts whenever opportunity arrives! When you guest post, the author of the site will generally let you leave a backlink to your site. You want to take advantage of leaving an anchor text link to your site, for instance, “Simple Ways To Make Money Online”.
If you are interested in guest posting opportunities let me know, you can contact me through this blog. (I am using Kai’s advice about anchor text

Most of you know about Twitter by now and I am sure you know about retweeting as well.
I want to share with you another great Twitter tool I discovered today. This is a retweeting exchange website at Retweet.it . It is pure genius and is simple to use. What you do is go to the site and enter your Twitter name and password. By doing this you will receive three credits. With these credits you can purchase retweets from other users. The cost is 1 credit per retweet. You can gain additional credits from buying more or you can choose the option I took and retweet other people’s tweets and earn a half of credit.
In order to utilize this service you must already have 50 followers. I did not sign up with my @tycoonblogger account as I did not want to spam my followers that I gained organically. I instead signed up with the account that I established when I did the “15,000 followers in 30 days” experiment. Here is the link to that post:
